Executive ManagementPhilipp Lang, MD, MBAChief Executive Officer, President, Chairman of the BoardDr. Lang founded ConforMIS in 2004 and has served as Chairman of the Board since its founding. He has been Chief Executive Officer since January 2008. Dr. Lang's management experience includes positions as the Director of the Musculoskeletal Radiology and Distinguished Weissman Chair at Brigham and Women's Hospital in Boston and Associate Professor at Harvard Medical School. Dr. Lang is also the founder of Imaging Therapeutics, Inc., where he now serves as Chairman of the Board and member of the Scientific Advisory Board. He has previously served as a Member on the Board of Directors of ViOptix, Inc. Dr. Lang has an extensive background in the medical device industry and has provided strategic leadership as an inventor of more than 80 patents, pending or issued, in the U.S. and abroad. He has an MBA from the UCLA Anderson School of Management and an MD from Albert-Ludwigs University, Freiburg School of Medicine in Germany. Robert Calcote, MSSenior Vice President, OperationsMr. Calcote brings more than 28 years of manufacturing and engineering experience to ConforMIS, with over 21 years in medical device engineering and operations management. Most recently, Mr. Calcote served as the Vice President of Operations at Archus Orthopedics, a start-up medical device company developing a novel facet arthroplasty system to treat spinal stenosis and complement lumbar total disc replacement. Prior to this role, he was Vice President of Operations at Spinal Dynamics Corporation, responsible for the manufacturing operations of the cervical disc system. Earlier in Mr. Calcotes career, he held the Director of Manufacturing position and progressive engineering and manufacturing management positions at C.R. Bards Impra Division, where he managed the ePTFE and polyester vascular graft manufacturing operations, both in the US and France. Mr. Calcotes education includes a B.S. in Electrical Engineering and an M.S. in Biomedical Engineering from the University of Texas, Arlington. David Cerveny, JDSenior Vice President, Intellectual Property & General CounselMr. Cerveny is responsible for managing ConforMIS' legal affairs as well as for developing and implementing ConforMIS' intellectual property portfolio and strategy. Prior to joining ConforMIS, Mr. Cerveny was the Chief Intellectual Property Counsel for Palomar Medical Technologies, where he managed a patent portfolio widely regarded as the strongest in that industry. He has a law degree from Boston College Law School, and was formerly an associate with Proskauer Rose and a partner at Hale & Dorr (now WilmerHale). In total, he has over ten years of experience in all aspects of intellectual property and medical devices. He has successfully represented clients in a host of domestic and international venues, and was twice named a Massachusetts SuperLawyers rising star. Most recently, he successfully defended Palomar Medical in a patent infringement trial in the Eastern District of Texas, where a jury determined that there was no infringement and that the asserted patent claims were invalid. Prior to law school, Mr. Cerveny earned a degree in biomedical engineering at Marquette University, and worked for five years with McDonnell Douglas Corporation developing digital flight control systems for military aircraft. Judith Huber, MBAChief Financial OfficerMs. Huber brings more than 20 years of financial experience, predominately in the medical device industry, to ConforMIS. Prior to joining ConforMIS, Ms. Huber served as Vice President and Controller at NxStage Medical. In this role, she was instrumental in building the financial and administrative infrastructure that led to the company's initial public offering, secondary financing, and acquisition of Medisystems Corporation. Ms. Huber also spent over nine years in various financial positions with C.R. Bard through the acquisition by AVE/Medtronic where she supported multiple divisions focused on improving the economic efficiencies in their manufacturing operations. Ms. Huber's education includes a B.S. in Accounting from the State University of New York at Geneseo and an MBA from Babson College. She is also a Certified Management Accountant. Jong Lee, MBASenior Vice President, Marketing & Senior Vice President, Business StrategyMr. Lee is responsible for developing and implementing the marketing strategy for ConforMIS. Prior to joining the company, Mr. Lee spent 14 years in a variety of roles at Monitor, a leading international strategy consulting firm. Over his career, he has been responsible for leading competitive and marketing strategy project for Fortune 500 clients, M&A valuation and due diligence, business plan development for VC and private equity firms, and organizational design and development efforts. In the five years prior to joining ConforMIS, Mr. Lee focused on product marketing strategy for clients in the medical devices sector, including overseeing the Monitor team that worked on the highly successful launch of the TAXUS drug eluting stent. Mr. Lee has an A.B from Harvard College and an MBA from Harvard Business School. Robert Phelps, MBASenior Vice President, SalesMr. Phelps has more than 25 years of medical device sales, distribution, marketing and business development experience. Most recently, he held the role of Vice-President of Corporate Distribution at Biomet focusing on commercial execution strategies across the strategic business units. Prior to this role he served as Senior Vice-President of Sales for Biomets BTBS (EBI) division involved with spine, trauma, osteo-biologics and sports medicine products. He also served as Area Vice-President for the Northeast and Mid-Atlantic regions in the joint reconstruction franchise. Before Biomet, Mr. Phelps helped establish microsphere technology with interventional radiologists and neuro-radiologists as the Vice-President of Sales & Marketing at Biosphere Medical Inc.. Mr. Phelps began his career at Johnson & Johnson Orthopedics, where he held various senior executive roles including Vice-President of Group Contracting and Vice-President of Sales. Bob holds a BS in Accounting from Rutgers University and an MBA from Rider University. John SlaminSenior Vice President, Knee Implant EngineeringMr. Slamin is reponsible for overseeing all product engineering and development for the ConforMIS line of knee implants. Prior to ConforMIS, Mr. Slamin spent more than 30 years in Research & Development at Johnson & Johnson's Orthopaedic Division, now DePuy. He was responsible for the product development activities that led to the PFC Total Knee System in 1986 and the Sigma Total Knee System in 1996. He coordinated the design and development of the world's first fully integrated and implantable electronic knee in collaboration with Clifford W. Colwell, MD of SCORE in LaJolla California , and he is the recipient of the Johnson Medal for outstanding Research and Development achievements. Mr. Slamin is the holder of 7 patents related to knee implant engineering. Mr. Slamin is a graduate of Wentworth Institute of Technology in Boston Massachusetts. Daniel Steines, MD, MSSenior Vice President, R&DDr. Steines leads the software engineering teams at ConforMIS and is responsible for the development of image processing and implant design algorithms and applications. He has more than 10 years of experience in research and development of medical image analysis and computer graphics applications. In the past, he held research positions at Stanford University and the Charit in Berlin (Germany), working in the areas of new imaging techniques to assess osteoarthritis and articular cartilage as well as novel medical video applications. He previously served as Senior Vice President of Research & Development for Imaging Therapeutics, where he was responsible for the development of image analysis applications for diagnosis of osteoarthritis and osteoporosis. Dr. Steines has an MD from the Technical University of Aachen (Germany) and an MS in computer science from the Technical University of Berlin (Germany). |
