Philipp Lang, MD, MBA Chief Executive Officer, President, Chairman of the Board Dr. Lang founded ConforMIS in 2004 and has served as Chairman of the Board since its founding. He has been Chief Executive Officer since January 2008. Dr. Lang's management experience includes positions as the Director of the Musculoskeletal Radiology and Distinguished Weissman Chair at Brigham and Women's Hospital in Boston and Associate Professor at Harvard Medical School. Dr. Lang is also the founder of Imaging Therapeutics, Inc., where he now serves as Chairman of the Board and member of the Scientific Advisory Board. He has previously served as a Member on the Board of Directors of ViOptix, Inc. Dr. Lang has an extensive background in the medical device industry and has provided strategic leadership as an inventor of more than 80 patents, pending or issued, in the U.S. and abroad. He has an MBA from the UCLA Anderson School of Management and an MD from Albert-Ludwigs University, Freiburg School of Medicine in Germany.
Phil Licari, MBA Chief Operating Officer Mr. Licari brings more than 25 years experience in medical device manufacturing and operations to ConforMIS. Prior to joining the company, Mr. Licari served as Senior Vice President and Chief Operating Officer at NxStage Medical. In this role, he was instrumental in taking the company from an early stage dialysis products company, through its initial public offering and secondary financing. Throughout his career, Mr. Licari has developed scalable operating infrastructures, including new manufacturing plants and stable supplier bases as the business endured a sustained period of dramatic growth. Mr. Licari spent eight years in various senior operating positions with Boston Scientific where he supported all divisions and the launch and growth of some of the company’s most successful product platforms. Mr. Licari’s education includes a B.S. Biomedical Engineering from Tufts University and an MBA from the University of Chicago Graduate School of Business.
Judith Huber, MBA Chief Financial Officer Ms. Huber brings more than 20 years of financial experience, predominately in the medical device industry, to ConforMIS. Prior to joining ConforMIS, Ms. Huber served as Vice President and Controller at NxStage Medical. In this role, she was instrumental in building the financial and administrative infrastructure that led to the company's initial public offering, secondary financing, and acquisition of Medisystems Corporation. Ms. Huber also spent over nine years in various financial positions with C.R. Bard through the acquisition by AVE/Medtronic where she supported multiple divisions focused on improving the economic efficiencies in their manufacturing operations. Ms. Huber's education includes a B.S. in Accounting from the State University of New York at Geneseo and an MBA from Babson College. She is also a Certified Management Accountant.
Edward Ross, Jr., MBA Senior Vice President, Commercial Mr. Ross joins the ConforMIS management team bringing over 25 years of commercialization, clinical and development experience in medical devices, distribution and biologics with a specialty for successful launch of major medical innovations and brands. Prior to joining ConforMIS, Mr. Ross was recently Vice President, Sales and Marketing of for Clozex Medical, makers of a major advance in wound closure acquired by 3M Health Care. In prior experience, Mr. Ross was responsible for worldwide commercialization and business development activities in senior management positions at emerging companies such as Anika Therapeutics and Gliatech. Mr. Ross also led initial global commercialization and partnership development efforts for the rhBMP-2 orthobiologics programs at Genetics Institute (now Wyeth) and spearheaded rapid growth of the trauma and spinal business at Zimmer. Ross has also held various sales and marketing management positions with American Hospital Supply, Whittaker General Medical and G.D. Searle-Will Ross. Mr. Ross has a B.A. in Political Science from Dickinson College and a M.B.A. in Marketing and Finance from the University of Rochester Simon Graduate School of Management.
Jong Lee, MBA Senior Vice President, Marketing Mr. Lee is responsible for developing and implementing the marketing strategy for ConforMIS. Prior to joining the company, Mr. Lee spent 14 years in a variety of roles at Monitor, a leading international strategy consulting firm. Over his career, he has been responsible for leading competitive and marketing strategy project for Fortune 500 clients, M&A valuation and due diligence, business plan development for VC and private equity firms, and organizational design and development efforts. In the five years prior to joining ConforMIS, Mr. Lee focused on product marketing strategy for clients in the medical devices sector, including overseeing the Monitor team that worked on the highly successful launch of the TAXUS drug eluting stent. Mr. Lee has an A.B from Harvard College and an MBA from Harvard Business School.
S. Michael Sharp, PhD, FASLM Senior Vice President, Regulatory and Clinical Affairs Dr. Sharp brings more than 30 years of experience in the clinical development and regulatory approval of new medical technology. He has held senior management positions with a number of leading medical device companies, most recently as Vice President of Regulatory and Clinical Affairs at Ikonisys, Inc. In addition to his industrial experience, Dr. Sharp was formerly the Director of Clinical Research and Chief Regulatory Officer for Emory University 's Winship Cancer Center , where he was also an Assistant Professor of Oncology. He is the author of more than 30 papers in professional journals and has served on the editorial boards of several professional journals.
Daniel Steines, MD, MS Senior Vice President, R&D Dr. Steines leads the software engineering teams at ConforMIS and is responsible for the development of image processing and implant design algorithms and applications. He has more than 10 years of experience in research and development of medical image analysis and computer graphics applications. In the past, he held research positions at Stanford University and the Charité in Berlin (Germany), working in the areas of new imaging techniques to assess osteoarthritis and articular cartilage as well as novel medical video applications. He previously served as Senior Vice President of Research & Development for Imaging Therapeutics, where he was responsible for the development of image analysis applications for diagnosis of osteoarthritis and osteoporosis. Dr. Steines has an MD from the Technical University of Aachen (Germany) and an MS in computer science from the Technical University of Berlin (Germany).
Patrick Hess, PhD, MBA, FACB Senior Vice President, West Coast Operations Dr. Hess has twenty years experience as senior manager in the life sciences. From December 2004 until January 2008, he was CEO of ConforMIS, Inc. During that time, he oversaw launch of the iJig™ pre-navigated surgical guidance system and the iForma™, iUni™, and iDuo™ line of knee implants. In addition, the Company obtained 6 FDA approvals, 2 CE Markings, moved its operation base to Massachusetts , grew in size to more than 45 employees, and successfully transitioned from the R&D phase into a revenue-generating midsize operation. Previously, he was President & CEO of TherapyEdge, Inc, Vice President and Director of Biotechnology Affairs for Quest Diagnostics, Inc., and Senior Laboratory Director of one of LabCorp's largest regional laboratories. Presently, he serves as President & CEO of Imaging Therapeutics, Inc and is a member of the Board of Directors for ConforMIS and Imaging Therapeutics.
John Slamin Vice President, Knee Implant Engineering Mr. Slamin is reponsible for overseeing all product engineering and development for the ConforMIS line of knee implants. Prior to ConforMIS, Mr. Slamin spent more than 30 years in Research & Development at Johnson & Johnson's Orthopaedic Division, now DePuy. He was responsible for the product development activities that led to the PFC Total Knee System in 1986 and the Sigma Total Knee System in 1996. He coordinated the design and development of the world's first fully integrated and implantable electronic knee in collaboration with Clifford W. Colwell, MD of SCORE in LaJolla California , and he is the recipient of the Johnson Medal for outstanding Research and Development achievements. Mr. Slamin is the holder of 7 patents related to knee implant engineering. Mr. Slamin is a graduate of Wentworth Institute of Technology in Boston Massachusetts .
