Thomas S. Thornhill, MD

Dr. Thornhill is Chairman of the Department of Orthopaedic Surgery at Brigham and Women’s Hospital in Boston, MA, and the John B. and Buckminster Brown Professor of Orthopedic Surgery at Harvard Medical School. Dr. Thornhill is an internationally recognized leader in orthopedics and has published extensively on treatment approaches for arthritis and joint damage. His recognition comes not just from his surgical expertise but from his experience in leading several of the most recognized orthopedic departments in the country, such as the Brigham and Women’s Hospital and the New England Baptist Hospital in Boston, MA. He has also served as the President of the Knee Society and won numerous awards and honors, including the Frank Stinchfield Award from the Hip Society and the Marian Ropes Award from the Arthritis Foundation.

Richard D. Scott, MD

Dr. Scott is an Orthopedic Surgeon at Brigham and Women’s Hospital and the New England Baptist Hospitals in Boston, MA, and a Professor of Orthopedic Surgery at Harvard Medical School. He was most recently the Chief of Implant Service at both the Brigham and Women’s and the Baptist Hospitals and Chief of the Joint Arthroplasty Fellowship Program at Brigham and Women’s Hospital. Dr. Scott is an internationally recognized expert in joint reconstruction. He has served on the editorial boards of the Journal of Arthroplasty, the American Journal of Knee Surgery, Clinical Orthopedic and Related Research, and the Journal of Bone and Joint Surgery. His book "Total Knee Arthroplasty" published in 2006 has sold thousands of copies and has been translated into German, Greek and Chinese. Dr. Scott has also served as the President of the Knee Society and been the recipient of several awards and honors, including the Marion Ropes Award for Lifetime Achievement from the Arthritis Foundation and the Lifetime Achievement Award from the Asian Pacific Arthroplasty Society.

Thomas Minas, MD, MS

Dr. Minas is an Attending Orthopedic Surgeon at Brigham and Women’s Hospital in Boston, MA, an Associate Professor of Orthopedic Surgery at Harvard Medical School, and Director of the Cartilage Repair Center. Dr. Minas is an internationally recognized leader in cartilage repair and autologous chondrocyte implantation (ACI). The Cartilage Repair Center, which Dr. Minas founded over a decade ago, continues to be the leading center for cartilage treatment in the world. He serves on the Executive Committee of the International Cartilage Repair Society as well as the Cartilage Research Foundation. Dr. Minas has published numerous articles in the field of cartilage repair and has a strong focus on joint preservation in the young adult. He performs arthroscopic surgery of the knee and hip, total and partial joint replacements, and joint preserving osteotomies.

Wolfgang Fitz, MD

Dr. Fitz is an associate orthopedic surgeon at Brigham and Women’s, Faulkner, and the New England Baptist Hospitals in Boston, MA and an Instructor at Harvard Medical School. He is licensed to practice in both the US and Germany. Dr. Fitz has been involved in a variety of innovations during his career. While in Germany he designed a seat that is widely used by BMW. Since his arrival at the Brigham he has worked on patented innovations including the use of nanotechnology to improve the performance of bone cement, minimally invasive implant designs, and instrumentation and surgical techniques for image-guided and computer-assisted joint replacement technology. Dr. Fitz won the National Orthopaedic Fellowship Foundation Award in 1999 and was selected to be a John Insall Traveling Fellow in 2002 by the American Knee Society.

Amar S. Ranawat, MD

Dr. Ranawat is an Assistant Attending Orthopedic Surgeon at Hospital for Special Surgery and an Assistant Professor of Orthopaedic Surgery at Weill Cornell Medical College. Dr. Ranawat earned his medical degree at Weill Cornell Medical College and completed his fellowship training in Adult Reconstruction under the direction of his father Dr. Chitranjan S. Ranawat, an internationally recognized leader in the field of orthopedics. Dr. Ranawat specializes in complex primary and revision joint surgery, and his research interests include alternative bearing surfaces for total hip replacement and innovative total knee designs. Dr. Ranawat has received numerous academic and professional accolades, including the Chief Resident’s Special Award, the Navy and Marine Corps Achievement Medal, the Hip Society British Traveling Fellowship, and the James A. Rand Award.

Anil S. Ranawat, MD

Dr. Ranawat is an Assistant Attending Orthopedic Surgeon at Hospital for Special Surgery and an Instructor in Orthopaedic Surgery at Weill Cornell Medical College. Dr. Ranawat earned his medical degree from Weill Medical College of Cornell University, completed an Orthopaedic Surgery residency at HSS, a Sports Medicine Fellowship at University of Pittsburgh Medical Center, and a Joint Preservation Hip Fellowship at the Schulthess Klinic in Zurich, Switzerland. His clinical and research interests include robotic surgery, partial knee replacement and mobile-bearing technology. Dr. Ranawat has received numerous awards including the T. Campbell Thompson Award for Excellence in Orthopedic Surgery, the Jean C. McDaniel Resident Teaching Award at Hospital for Special Surgery, the Maurice Müller European Traveling Hip Fellowship and the AAOS Washington Health Policy Fellowship.

Brian McKeon, MD

Dr. McKeon is an Assistant Clinical Professor of Orthopedics at Tufts University School of Medicine and a Sports Medicine Fellowship Instructor at New England Baptist Hospital in Boston, MA where he currently practices. In addition, Dr. McKeon has been the Chief Medical Officer and Head Team Physician for the Boston Celtics since 2005. Through his clinical research at New England Baptist and his work with elite athletes, Dr. McKeon has become an internationally published author and presenter. Most recently, he has served as the lead editor of the newly published textbook, Knee Arthroscopy. Beyond his clinical work, Dr. McKeon is also the president and founder of Perseus Athletics, a sports medicine products company.
