About the Doctor
Dr. Steve Kwak is a board-certified, sports medicine trained orthopaedic surgeon specializing in arthroscopic treatment of the shoulder, hip and knee. After graduating from Duke University, he went on to UMDNJ (Now Rutgers-New Jersey Medical School) to obtain his medical degree. He subsequently completed his orthopaedic residency training at Tufts Medical Center and the New England Baptist Hospital in Boston, Massachusetts. He finished his training at the world-renowned Southern California Orthopedic Institute (SCOI) in Los Angeles where he completed a fellowship in advanced arthroscopic and reconstructive surgery.
He is one of a handful of people in the Tri-State area formally trained in hip arthroscopy. He is currently an associate Master Instructor in Hip Arthroscopy for AANA (Arthroscopy Association of North America), teaching other surgeons how to perform hip arthroscopy at the Orthopaedic Learning Center in Chicago, IL. He has published a book chapter on hip labral repairs with Dr. Carlos Guanche.
Dr. Kwak has a special interest in complex arthroscopic shoulder repair and reconstruction, and cartilage and ligament injuries of the knee and ankle, of which he has presented research at national and international meetings.
Dr. Kwak grew up in Central New Jersey, but now lives in Bergen County with his wife and son. He enjoys playing golf, basketball and tennis, and often daydreams about someday reaching his life goal of pitching for the Yankees.
