About the Doctor
My approach to my patient is to treat them as a family member. I give them a voice. I encourage an interactive treatment plan that fits my patients needs for work and recreation. I am a firm believer that my role is to enable you to achieve your goals. I put my ego on the backburner if our choice of treatment differs. I will continue to help you succeed.I will also allow people to participate in their desired activity to the best of their ability. I believe that it is OK to PLAY HURT, but NOT INJURED! I am however a surgeon and believe that if the anatomy has been disrupted that it often needs repair!
In general, my philosophy is to repair surgically when conservative management has failed to satisfy my patients needs. I rarely use casts if I have operated on an extremity. I encourage early range of motion and return of the extremity to its basic state so that atrophy and disuse syndromes are not issues. For my shoulder repairs I encourage early use of the hand and elbow and prefer to avoid daytime slings.
I use physical therapy and alternative treatments routinely. I am NOT a big pill person and use drugs when I believe that pain needs to be managed . I believe in the power of the human body to heal itself. I am here to assist you heal.
I am a Board certified member of the American Academy of Orthopedic Surgeons, The Arthroscopy Association of North America and the Orthopedic Trauma Association.Currently my main interests are in reconstruction of the injured or arthritic shoulder and knee. I have extensive experience in arthroscopic repair of the rotator cuff , instability (dislocations) repair, arthroscopic acromioplasty and distal claviculectomy. I perform state of the art Joint replacement surgery on the shoulder. Currently I am the only Eastside Seattle Orthopedist performing the Depuy Reverse Shoulder prosthesis, designed in Europe, for the treatment of cuff tear arthropathy (debilitating arthritis that is associated with an unrepairable rotator cuff). I use state of the art fracture techniques for all fractures of the shoulder and upper extremity. I perform standard arthroscopic surgery on the knee including meniscectomy (torn meniscus), cartilage repair (OATS, Carticel), lateral release (patella malaignment) and ACL (hamstrings, patellar tendon and allograft). I perform knee replacements with the Depuy system incuding the new Rotating Platform (swivel knee) for the younger population.
