Dr. Audley Mackel earned his Bachelor of Science degree with Honors in Biology from Morehouse College in Atlanta, Georgia, and his medical degree from the Meharry Medical College School of Medicine in Nashville, Tennessee. He continued his training with an Internship in the Department of General Surgery and a Residency in the Department of Orthopaedic Surgery at Northwestern University in Chicago, Illinois. Dr. Mackel then went on to a comprehensive Arthritis and Joint Implant Surgery Fellowship at Kerlan-Jobe Orthopaedic Clinic in Inglewood, California.

Board certified in Orthopaedic Surgery, Dr. Mackel has been in private practice with Associates in Orthopaedics since 1988. He is a Clinical Instructor at the Case Western Reserve University School of Medicine in the Department of Orthopaedic Surgery. In addition, Dr. Mackel serves as Division Chief of Orthopaedics in the Department of General Surgery at St. Vincent Charity Hospital Medical Center in Cleveland. He is a member of the medical staff at St. Vincent Charity Hospital, University Hospitals of Cleveland and Meridia South Pointe Hospital.

Active in numerous professional organizations, Dr. Mackel is a Fellow of the American Academy of Orthopaedic Surgeons and a member of the J. Robert Gladden Orthopaedic Society, Mid-American Orthopaedic Association, American Association of Hip and Knee Surgeons, American Medical Association, and the Ohio Orthopaedic Society, among others. He has been recognized throughout his career with many honors and accolades, including the American Medical Association’s Physician Recognition Award and being named to Who’s Who Among Black Americans. Dr. Mackel also dedicates his time to serving in leadership positions on various committees at hospitals throughout the region.

Dr. Mackel is the author of several published articles and book chapters. He is a sought after speaker who has conducted presentations at dozens of medical conferences and meetings across the country. Dr. Mackel firmly believes in community service as well, and gives back to the community through Alpha Phi Alpha Fraternity, Sigma Pi Phi Fraternity and the Mount Zion Congregational Church.
