Dr. Freels grew up in the East Tennessee area and graduated from the University of the South in Sewanee, TN and attended medical school at East Tennessee State University in Johnson City, TN. He then completed his residency training in orthopaedic surgery at the Tampa General Hospital in Tampa, FL, and at Bowman Gray / Wake Forest University Baptist Hospital Medical Center. He later completed a fellowship in Arthritis Surgery/Total Joint Replacement in at the Florida Orthopaedic Institute/Tampa General Hospital in Tampa, FL.

Dr. Freels is board certified by the American Board of Orthopaedic Surgery and is a member of the American Association of Hip and Knee Surgeons. He has extensive experience in general orthopedics and joint replacement patients having been in practice for over 21 years. Dr. Freels specializes in the treatment of hip, knee, and shoulder problems. His areas of surgical expertise include:
