James T. Caillouette, M.D. is the Joan and Andy Fimiano Endowed Chair in Orthopedic Surgery for Hoag Memorial Hospital. He is a Board Certified Orthopedic Surgeon who specializes in Joint Replacement and Adult Reconstructive Surgery and performs over 500 joint replacements annually as well as approximately 120 knee arthroscopies. He is Chairman of Newport Orthopedic Institute; a 27-physician group based in Newport Beach, California and was elected to serve as the founding Surgeon in Chief/Chief of Staff for Hoag Orthopedic Institute, a joint venture orthopedic specialty hospital he co-founded that opened in 2010. He has served on the Board of Managers of the Institute since its inception. He has served as a member of the Board of Directors of the American Association of Hip and Knee Surgeons, the Western Orthopedic Association and is past President of the California Orthopedic Association, the largest state surgical specialty society in the United States.

Dr. Caillouette earned his medical degree from the University of Southern California School of Medicine. He was elected President of Alpha Omega Alpha, the National Medical School Academic Honor Society. He served both his internship and orthopedic residency at the University of California, Irvine. He is a fellow of the American Academy of Orthopaedic Surgeons, the immediate past President of the California Orthopaedic Association, a former Director of the American Association of Hip and Knee Surgeons, a member of the International Society for Technology in Arthroplasty, and a member of the International Society of Computer Assisted Orthopaedic Surgery. Dr. Caillouette reviews articles for The Journal of Arthroplasty and Clinical Orthopedics and Related Research.

Dr. Caillouette participates in surgeon education at a national and international level. He has numerous publications in the orthopedic literature. He is currently focused on healthcare economics and reform, along with the design of next generation hip and knee implants.

As the Endowed Chair for Orthopedic Surgery, the gift from Andy and Joan Fimiano recognizes and honors Dr. Caillouette’s work in Orthopedics and will enable him to expand outreach, education, research, recruitment and treatment surrounding the design of next-generation hip and knee implants through Hoag’s Orthopedic Education & Research Institute.
