Wayne State University School of Medicine (Detroit, MI) – Doctor of Medicine
Hip / Knee Joint Replacement
A Michigan native, Dr. Driessnack is a caring professional who has spent the majority of his career in Peoria. After completing his residency training, he worked as a general orthopaedic surgeon in LaCrosse, Wisconsin. A deepening interest in hip and knee replacement led him to a fellowship at the University of Colorado in 1987-88. From there, Dr. Driessnack came to Peoria, working in general orthopaedic surgery with an increasing focus on adult reconstruction over the next 20 years. He spent a short time in private practice in Nashville, TN followed by a year and a half as Assistant Professor in the Department of Orthopaedics and Rehabilitation at the Vanderbilt University Medical Center. In addition to instructing orthopaedic surgery residents, Dr. Driessnack practiced adult reconstruction, and cared for hip and knee reconstruction problems such as dysplasia of the hip, and post-traumatic hip and knee problems.
A regular attendee at hip and knee meetings each year, Dr. Driessnack recently participated in a multi-center national clinical study comparing two types of knee prosthesis designs, and presented the findings at an international meeting in 2009. He has several publications in national journals. He is a Fellow of the American Academy of Orthopaedic Surgeons, a member of the American Association of Hip and Knee Surgeons and the Vanderbilt Orthopaedic Society. In 2008 and 2012, Dr. Driessnack received a “Best Doctors in America” award. He recently developed a deepening interest in the concept of customization of knee replacements, and has adopted this new technology into his practice since 2015.
Dr. Driessnack and his wife, Jan, moved back to Peoria in late 2010. They have raised three children here and they all are now married. He and his wife are happily enjoying their eight grandchildren, as well as singing in the church choir. Medical mission trips have occupied much of his service-oriented work. He is looking forward to seeing many former patients and friends in the years ahead.
